2009 Summer Programs for Children
Children are invited to spend their summer at the historic houses and barns of the Smithtown Historical Society and experience history. These summer programs will take place at the Franklin Arthur Farm, Epenetus Smith Tavern, Judge J. Lawrence Smith Homestead, and the Frank Brush Barn. The programs are taught by our professional museum educators, with the philosophy that learning is fun when: there are objects that can be touched; there is time for play; there are games and crafts to make and take home, and historic traditions are alive around you. In 1999, the Smithtown Historical Society offered a home base ball field to the re-creation of the Atlantic Base Ball Club of Brooklyn, New York. Now playing their 9th season on the Smithtown Historical Society grounds, the team continues to entertain the young and young at heart with this All-American pastime. The Society
The Smithtown Historical Society is located in Suffolk County on the north shore of Long Island, approximately fifty miles from New York City. We currently preserve and interpret fourteen historic structures within our township. The Historical Society offers school programs for Long Island students, as well as enriching events for families and friends throughout the year. Join us to learn more about Smithtown, a vibrant community since 1665.
